Star of Mine (demo)
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux
This game follows Marie, a 5th grade girl with a very shy nature. She takes comfort in her hobbies, primarily drawing a particular character of her own creation. While she finds enjoyment in creating, she is more reluctant about sharing her works. Can you really keep any insecurities hidden from middle schoolers, though?
Art by Rachel Utzig
Music by Scotty Two-Socks
This demo was made in 12 Days for Bubblegum Jam (missed the submission deadline by an hour though). If you play this game.. it'll be pretty obvious it is nowhere near finished. I had much, much more stupidly ambitious plans for the jam, but this is what I managed to get done. The idea ended up getting bigger and bigger, and I think I only managed to get a fraction of what I hope it will eventually become into this short demo, but hopefully it might spark your interest in seeing a full game! With like, actual options! haha aaaaaa sorry
It takes just a few minutes to complete, so I hope you'll play! Feedback welcome!

i hope you work on this game again, seems like the last update was a awhile ago, the idea of a oc coming to life is really creative and i like how it averts expections and instead of it being a dream its a nightmare, the art here is pretty realsitc and pastel which i like and then the dialouge is pretty easy to follow, its a a shame you couldnt turn this game in for the jam on time, i still think this is nice, good work!
thank you so much for taking the time to write me this comment! :') i had full intention of picking up this project again after the game jam, but the more time that passed after i published it, the more i began to doubt myself, and my story writing... i was finding that my aspirations for the game were starting to get so big, that the idea of working on it again became daunting. (not the first time that's happened and won't be the last!) I think there's still a little hope for it though - i think about it occasionally and have had some ideas on how i might progress forward with it if i got the chance. my original story idea needs some workshopping, and i'd say my ~visual eye~ has developed since then so it'd need some art upgrades. but my hope is that maybe i will one day find the time to wrap it into a neat, short, but finished game. thank you again for writing this totally sweet and thoughtful comment, it was a really nice surprise when opening itch after a long time.
(p.s. i actually dropped in because i've been working on another visual novel that i'm aiming to finish + publish here in a month or two! i've been working on it a lot longer than i ever did on Star of Mine, and i think it'll show haha :D it's a fantasy fairytale story about two sisters. if you like that sort of thing, then i hope you'll stay tuned...!)
oh woah that other game sounds really intresting i might check it out! And dont doubt yourself im sure the rest of what you came up with is good! this game has alot going for it but no pressure if you dont want to do anything. i would just love to see this game end somehow, no problem also for commenting!
very cute idea and love the overall aesthetic of the artwork, i hope someday you might work on a full version!
this seems cool, i'm going to try it
